DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 12 July 2023 – Unscriptural Proverb

DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 12 July 2023 TOPIC: Unscriptural Proverb TEXT:  Ezekiel 18:1-18 (KJV) KEY VERSE “What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?”  (Ezekiel 18:2) DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 12 July 2023 MESSAGE While in captivity in Babylon, the Jews twisted God’s flawless justice template by arguing that regardless of the children’s righteous living, they would still be punished for the transgressions of their parents. They believed their exile was as a result of their fathers’ sins, with little consideration for their own righteousness. Nevertheless, the Lord sent His servant, Prophet Ezekiel, to correct them firmly. Promptly, the Lord set the record straight. The father or mother would bear the consequences of their wrongdoings. A justice-seeking God would not transfer the guilt or punishment of the departed or living parents to the godly offspring. Equally, H

DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 11 July 2023 – Guard Your Eyes

DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 11 July 2023 TOPIC:  Guard Your Eyes TEXT:  2 Kings 16:10-18 (KJV) KEY VERSE “And king Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and saw an altar that was at Damascus: and king Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the fashion of the altar, and the pattern of it, according to all the workmanship thereof.” (2 Kings 16:10) DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 11 July 2023 MESSAGE King David sought God’s help as he looked for a check on his tongue. He prayed in Psalm 141:3: “Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips”. What King Ahaz of Judah needed hundreds of years after David was a different type of request. He ought to have pleaded with the Lord to “set a watch” over his eyes. Unbridled eyes led him irretrievably into going against God concerning idolatry. When Ahaz went to the ungodly king of Assyria, he “saw an altar” there, which he sent to the priest in Jerusalem to duplicate. Returning home, his eyes again lured him into stray

DCLM Daily Manna Monday 10 July 2023 – Little Foxes in Marriage

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Monday 10 July 2023  TOPIC:  Little Foxes in Marriage Text:  Ephesians 5:21-33 (KJV) KEY VERSE ”That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”  (Ephesians 5:27) DCLM Daily Manna Monday 10 July 2023 MESSAGE Marriages fail, according to experts, not because there is a general breakdown in moral values in society admittedly, but because the spouses do not feed the union with what it needs to flourish. Across scientifically conducted studies, divorces and separations have been traced primarily to infidelity, domestic abuse, unresolved arguments, absence of love, transparency or intimacy, financial challenge, delay in childbearing, etc. Feeding the home with God’s blueprint for a happy marriage is what will destroy the ‘foxes’ attacking marriages and bloating the statistics on divorces and estrangement among couples. His recipes of sacrificial love between husband

DCLM Daily Manna Sunday 9 July 2023 – Predictable Conduct

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Sunday 9 July 2023  TOPIC:  Predictable Conduct TEXT:  2 Kings 16:1-9 (KJV) KEY VERSE “Twenty years old was Ahaz when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD his God, like David his father.” (2 Kings 16:2) DCLM Daily Manna Sunday 9 July 2023 MESSAGE What even unbelievers appreciate about the Bible, apart from its prophetic declarations and irrefutable wisdom and many other attributes, is its unpretentious narratives. In the Bible, God expressly permitted stories of the failures, fall and frailties of great kings, prophets and leaders. He also caused to be revealed how those who trusted Him bounced back. There is no cover-up of the tendencies or weaknesses of any of His prophets and people. The Scripture’s record about the reign of Ahaz, one of the kings of Judah, shows that “he did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD his God, like David his father”. He relegated God in his

DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 8 July 2023 – How to Make Heaven

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 8 July 2023  TOPIC:  How to Make Heaven TEXT:  Matthew 5:3-11 (KJV) KEY VERSE “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3) DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 8 July 2023 MESSAGE Although heaven is God’s abode, He has made provision for man to spend eternity with Him. Man can be in that Kingdom only if he meets the conditions of our Lord. What we know as the Sermon on the Mount (the Beatitudes) forms the essential teachings of Christ on how to respond to God’s love and make it to heaven ultimately. The Beatitudes do not form a legal code meant for human carnal analysis and interpretation. They are imperatives to be obeyed by grace if we truly love our Creator and desire to enter His kingdom. The repeated opening with the word “blessed” is a reference to the unspeakable joy that awaits those who mindfully imbibe the teachings. They are attitudes to adopt for heaven-seeking pilgrims who are poor in spirit, meek, holiness-hun

DCLM Daily Manna Friday 7 July 2023 – Mercy and Judgment

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Friday 7 July 2023 TOPIC:  Mercy and Judgment TEXT:  Genesis 6:8-22 (KJV) KEY VERSE But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee. (Genesis 6:18) DCLM Daily Manna Friday 7 July 2023 MESSAGE Mercy, love and justice are eminent qualities of God that never cease to amaze humanity in their long and chequered history. For every epoch in our existence, mercy, love and judgment have always been essential accompaniments. It demonstrates an African adage that as a parent disciplines a child with one hand, he or she readies the other to draw the child close in love. When the Lord decided to judge the world at the time of Noah, having found their waywardness to be extreme, He worked out a plan to be merciful to Noah and his family, together with a few animals. He hid them in a big vessel to shield them from the global flood commanded to destroy every living thing. Where there i

DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 6 July 2023 – Lead Like a Servant

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 6 July 2023  TOPIC:  Lead Like a Servant TEXT:  John 13:1-15 (KJV) Key Verse: “If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.” (John 13:14) DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 6 July 2023 MESSAGE Leaders in the world, conventionally, crave recognition, respect and honour. They seek to be applauded for every little conduct. The promises they make and the work they do are all geared towards garnering popularity. To them, those they lead must remain grateful for their service. Jesus Christ is different. He models a distinct type of leadership that is uncommon in the world. As He approached the end of His ministry on earth, He did something unusual. He took a bucket of water and began to wash the feet of His disciples, taking care to wipe them dry with a towel. Probably baffled, none of the disciples questioned this seemingly strange action, until Jesus got to Peter. He thought it was demeaning for his Master to was

DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 5 July 2023 – Virtues in A Holy Vessel

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 4 July 2023 TOPIC: Virtues in A Holy Vessel TEXT:  2 Kings 13:10-25 (KJV) KEY VERSE “And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.” (2 Kings 13:21) DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 4 July 2023 MESSAGE When God chooses a man, He honours and dignifies him with His power and spiritual gifts. He equips him to accomplish great tasks for Him. This was the case with Elisha. Armed with a double portion of Elijah’s anointing, Elisha played a crucial role in the socio-political and spiritual history of Israel in his day. He was God’s spokesman to kings and the people. He was a source of joy to the barren and a terror to Israel’s enemies. The power of God upon Elisha made the king of Israel to humble himself before him. He was a holy vessel whom the Lord used and honoured grea

DCLM Daily Manna Friday 30 June 2023 – Sanctifying Tears

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Friday 30 June 2023 TOPIC: Sanctifying Tears TEXT:  2 Corinthians 7:8-16 (KJV) KEY VERSE: For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter. (2 Corinthians 7:11) DCLM Daily Manna Friday 30 June 2023 MESSAGE Scientists have only recently began to do a careful study on the amazing health benefits of bitter kola, a plant native to Central and Western Africa. Although every part of the plant has been used for medicinal purposes, its seed is more in demand. One remarkable thing about bitter kola seed is that despite its attractive white inner colour, it has a sharp bitter flavour. However, as you chew on, it ends up tasting sweet, especially when you drink water thereafter. Bitter-to-sweet is how best to describe

DCLM Daily Manna Sunday 2 July 2023 – Beyond Our Filthy Rags

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Sunday 2 July 2023 TOPIC: Beyond Our Filthy Rags TEXT:  Job 25:1-6 (KJV) 25 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said, 2 Dominion and fear are with him, he maketh peace in his high places. 3 Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise? 4 How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman? 5 Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight. 6 How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm? KEY VERSE “How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?” (Job 25:4) DCLM Daily Manna Sunday 2 July 2023 MESSAGE As an experienced senator tried to describe the bizarre wonder of the capitol to a new politician, he pointed his attention to an old deteriorating log floating on the river and said, “This city is like that log out there”. “How’s that,” the fresh politician asked. The senator retorted, “Well, th

DCLM Daily Manna Monday 3 July 2023 – A Nostalgic Past

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Monday 3 July 2023 TOPIC:  A Nostalgic Past TEXT:  Ezra 3:8-13 (KJV) KEY VERSE “But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy.” (Ezra 3:12) DCLM Daily Manna Monday 3 July 2023 MESSAGE The impression of “the good old days” is usually associated with the thought that things used to be better than they are presently. It is a mental reflection of the images and events of a pleasant past, compared to a real or perceived unpleasant present. It is certain that civilisation and new developments continue to make the present different from the past. The ‘good old days’ is also relative, as not everyone may consider a particular time as good. READ: Prayer Points On Open Heavens 2 July 2023 The nostalgic memories of the past come into focus in our text. In the second year of their return f

DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 1 July 2023 – The Flip Side of Success

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 1 July 2023 TOPIC: The Flip Side of Success TEXT:  2 Chronicles 26:1-21 (KJV) KEY VERSE ”But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.” (2 Chronicles 26:16) DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 1 July 2023 MESSAGE Much truth is contained in the saying that, “There’s a thin line between confidence and arrogance… it’s called humility. Confidence smiles, arrogance smirks!” Unfortunately, most people who develop confidence by virtue of attainment are not careful enough to observe that line. They end up where arrogance leads – downfall. This was the case of Uzziah, the son of Amaziah, who was made king of Judah at age 16. His 52-year reign ushered Judah into one of its most glorious and prosperous era. The source of his success was not hidden. He was under the godly influence of Zechariah the prophet “who had understanding

DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 28 June 2023 – You Can Rise Again!

DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 28 June 2023  TOPIC:  You Can Rise Again! TEXT:  Micah 7:8-13 (KJV) KEY VERSE “Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.” (Micah 7:8) DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 28 June 2023 MESSAGE The famous American inventor and businessman, Thomas Edison, observed that “People are not remembered by how few times they failed, but by how often they succeed. Every wrong step can be another step forward”. Micah’s prophecy centred on Israel’s captivity and affliction occasioned by their sin. The captive Israelites are here portrayed as exulting in their hope of deliverance by God. They realized their disobedience to God attracted the calamities that befell them. They were willing to patiently bear God’s chastisement and to break off from the works of darkness that brought it upon them. However, beyond their fall, they hoped to rise again. Though wrapped in the darkness of sin, they hop

DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 27 June 2023 – Living Epistles

DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 27 June 2023  TOPIC:  Living Epistles TEXT:  1 Corinthians 3:1-6 (KJV) 3 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? 5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? 6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. KEY VERSE: “Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men.” (2 Corinthians 3:2) DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 27 June 2023 MESSAGE It took the exhibition of Christian virtues of love and patience to bring an embittered lady to conviction and conversion. She

DCLM Daily Manna Monday 26 June 2023 TOPIC: What to Do During Challenges TEXT:  Job 3:1-10 (KJV) KEY VERSE: “Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.” (Job 3:3) DCLM Daily Manna Monday 26 June 2023 MESSAGE John Harper, a Scottish minister, was travelling by ship to preach at The Moody Church in Chicago in the United States of America when his vessel began to sink as it crossed the Atlantic. It had collided with an iceberg. Some passengers were able to reach lifeboats but many, including Harper, were unlucky; they were flung into the cold, icy sea. The preacher swam around asking those trying to stay afloat to give their lives to Christ. Just before he was drowned by the frigid waters, he told a struggling passenger, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved”. Unlike Harper, Job permitted his predicament to get the better of his language. Assaulted and derailed by fatal vicissitudes, the source of

DCLM Daily Manna Sunday 25 June 2023 – A New World

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Sunday 25 June 2023  TOPIC:  A New World TEXT:  Revelation 21:1-8 (KJV) KEY VERSE “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:4) DCLM Daily Manna Sunday 25 June 2023 MESSAGE There has been so much talk lately about a new world order. The concept of a new world order emerged from the endless search by world leaders for a better, more peaceful, equitable, prosperous and sustainable world. In this attempt, they have explored diplomatic, economic, military, cultural and technological possibilities. Unfortunately, the world has continued to wallow in increasing crises. Unlike the elusive humanly conceived new world order, God has an unfailing plan to do away with the present world system and bring in a true new heaven and new earth. As found in today’s text, Apostle John gave a panoramic view of this wonder

DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 24 June 2023  TOPIC:  Tongues of Fire TEXT:  Acts 2:1-4 (KJV) 2 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. KEY VERSE “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”  (Acts 2:4) DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 24 June 2023 MESSAGE Aircraft is built for the sky and, therefore, is not at home until it is airborne. Its takeoff is quite fascinating. Here are a few fun facts associated with it. First is the fact that it takes off against (not with) the wind. Again, the typical commercial aeroplane will norm

DCLM Daily Manna Friday 23 June 2023 TOPIC:  Getting Ready to Go TEXT:  John 14:1-6 (KJV) 14 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. KEY VERSE “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:3) DCLM Daily Manna Friday 23 June 2023 MESSAGE Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral was in planning decades before her passing on September 8, 2022. The oak coffin used to convey her rem

DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 22 June 2023 TOPIC: Addressing Our Weak Links READ: Romans 16:17-27 (KJV) KEY VERSE: “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.” (Romans 16:17) DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 22 June 2023 MESSAGE The most vulnerable point of the huge image in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream was its feet made “part of iron and part of clay”. The stone that pulverised the colossus did not aim at its ornate features of gold, silver and brass; it went straight to where it was weak, the base where it was incompatible with the other strong sections of an otherwise formidable statue. It is not enough to boast of partial strength. One must strive for all-round vigour. That is the message in the concluding chapter of Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans. He warns them to watch against those who cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine they had learnt and avoid them. These doctrinal de

DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 21 June 2023 – Sin Kills

DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 21 June 2023 TOPIC:  Sin Kills READ: 1 Chronicles 10:1-14 (KJV) KEY VERSE: “So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it.” (1 Chronicles 10:13) DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 21 June 2023 MESSAGE Some people have the habit of taking God for granted. They assume that since He does not always mete out instant judgment on offenders, He does not care about their transgressions, or somehow, He would forget their offences. Worse still, this leads them to continue in their sinful lifestyle, as if they would never be called to account for their actions. Israel’s first king, Saul, was a perfect example of disobedience and rebellion against God. He did not take God’s instructions to heart but carried them out half-heartedly. He preferred acting out his plots rather than asking God for direction and guidanc
