DCLM Daily Manna Monday 22 May 2023 TOPIC: I Want to Be Truly Free? Text:  1 Samuel 7:1-12 (KJV) KEY VERSE “And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.” (1 Samuel 7:3) DCLM Daily Manna Monday 22 May 2023 MESSAGE There are many people who long to be free from one form of bondage or the other. They are really dissatisfied with what they are going through and would do anything or pay any price for their freedom. However, they fail to identify and deal with the real cause of their bondage. Except this is sincerely addressed, such people can never be really free in the true sense. The Israelites were also in bondage for many years. They suffered the oppressive aggressions of their neighbours, the Philistines. They lived every day in fear as th

DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 20 May 2023 – Mercy For The Penitent

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 20 May 2023  TOPIC:  Mercy For The Penitent TEXT:  1 Kings 21:17-29 (KJV) KEY VERSE “And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.” (1 Kings 21:27) DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 20 May 2023 MESSAGE In our text, God sent Prophet Elijah to confront Ahab who had gone to take over the vineyard of Naboth whom Jezebel had killed so he could have the land. Elijah announced the judgment of God upon Ahab, his wife, Jezebel and his entire household for all the wicked atrocities they had committed. Ahab’s sins and wickedness were said to have far exceeded those of all the other kings before him. He literarily sold himself to sin; but God’s message of judgment struck Ahab. His tough, wicked and hardened heart melted immediately and he humbled himself in repentance. Ahab’s penitence here is very instructive to us as believers. It goes to show that no one i

DCLM Daily Manna Friday 19 May 2023 – Doing Good Wrongly

DCLM Daily Manna Friday 19 May 2023 TOPIC: Doing Good Wrongly TEXT:  1 Kings 20:31-43 (KJV) KEY VERSE “And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save thy life.”  (1 Kings 20:31) DCLM Daily Manna Friday 19 May 2023 MESSAGE It is a sad paradox that some people’s good qualities become their undoing. People are not usually expected to suffer defeat and become victims for being good. Unfortunately, the undoing of some people is attributed not to their moral weakness or any bad quality they may have, but rather and strangely, to what supposedly should have been their strength – their good qualities. Benhadad, the king of Syria took advantage of this seemingly good quality in Ahab, king of Israel. Having been defeated and their army routed, the surviving servants of Benhadad advised hi

DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 18 May 2023 – Integrity Is It

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 18 May 2023  TOPIC:  Integrity Is It TEXT:  Proverbs 19:1-9 (KJV) KEY VERSE “Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.”  (Proverbs 19:1) DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 18 May 2023 MESSAGE Thousands of years ago, a disturbed Egyptian monarch looked across the executive council hall, searching for a man of integrity among his wise men and magicians to drive a strategic economic plan that was unveiled. The king wanted a person of integrity, not those with magic wands and worldly wisdom. He needed someone “in whom the Spirit of God is… discreet and wise”. Integrity is the sum of probity, honesty, rectitude, candour, uprightness, goodness and all that can be found in a man of character. The word of God says such a man, even if he is rated poor, is better than a perverse and foolish person who might be boasting in his riches. Cataloguing other virtues, the passage urges us to seek knowledge, without wh

DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 17 May 2023 – Conditional Divorce?

DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 17 May 2023  TOPIC: Conditional Divorce? TEXT:  Matthew 19:1-12 (KJV) KEY VERSE And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. (Matthew 19:9) DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 17 May 2023 MESSAGE In 2019, there were about 800,000 divorce cases in Europe. The number was around 1.042 million in the United States. Available data show that the number of registered divorce cases in China rose from 2.7 million in 2010 to 4.7 million in 2019. South Africa had 23,710 cases the same year. More than 200 divorce petitions were filed in one state in Nigeria each month in 2021. The contention regarding divorce has existed for centuries. Jesus told the Pharisees and the crowd that listened to Him that no man should put asunder what the Lord had joined together. Men were sending away their wives, hypocritically citing Moses’ inj

DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 16 May 2023 – Help from Above

DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 16 May 2023 TOPIC:  Help from Above TEXT:  Exodus 2:1-10 (KJV) KEY VERSE: “And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.”  (Exodus 2:10) DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 16 May 2023 MESSAGE Whatever we can easily achieve does not need a miracle. However, when we get to our wits’ end, then we need the miraculous intervention from God to reach our goal. Divine intervention comes into play when common sense, science and philosophy are exhausted in solving our problems. Today’s text summarises the birth and miraculous preservation of Moses in a most perilous time in Egypt. He was born at a time Pharaoh had decreed death for every Hebrew male child born in Egypt. In a clear demonstration of help from above, his mother devised a unique means to discharge her child to fate in faith. By divine arrangement, Pharaoh’s daughter came to wash by the riv

DCLM Daily Manna Friday 12 May 2023 – Impenitent Leader

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Friday 12 May 2023 TOPIC:  Impenitent Leader TEXT:  Mark 12:1-12 (KJV) KEY VERSE “And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.” (Mark 12:12) DCLM Daily Manna Friday 12 May 2023 MESSAGE King David proved more discreet and tolerant in his time than the chief priests, scribes and elders did in Christ’s day. When Nathan the prophet exposed his sin through a parable, David set aside his ego and humbly accepted his inexcusable transgressions. He attracted instant mercy, although he could not escape the corporeal repercussions. The leaders of Israel were not so. More than one thousand years later, Jesus spoke of the parable of the wicked husbandmen who hijacked God’s vineyard. They slew the prophets He sent to them for harvesting of the yields. In a final act of rebellion, they murdered the son of the owner of the field. Clearly, they understood, like David

DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 11 May 2023 – Champions in Christ

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 11 May 2023 TOPIC:  Champions in Christ TEXT:  Isaiah 29:13-24 (KJV) KEY VERSE “The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off.”  (Isaiah 29:19,20) DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 11 May 2023 MESSAGE The unconditional theory of the survival of the fittest enunciated by some evolutionists, philosophers and economists runs contrary to the teachings of the Bible. The doctrine argues that in society, the poor, weak and socially handicapped would risk extinction as the strong, fit and economically advantaged take up all the space for supremacy in productive endeavours. In the sight of the Lord, this is erroneous. He sent His servant, Isaiah, to the children of Israel to warn them against needlessly leaning on the “wisdom of their wise men”. Their thinking disparaged the lowly in t

DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 10 May 2023 – His Unfailing Covenant

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 10 May 2023  TOPIC: His Unfailing Covenant TEXT:  2 Chronicles 21:1-11 (KJV) KEY VERSE “Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.”  (2 Chronicles 21:7) DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 10 May 2023 MESSAGE In theology, a covenant or pact, is described as a solemn “agreement which brings about a relationship of commitment between God and His people”. For instance, the Jewish faith is based on the biblical covenant God made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and later reiterated in the days of Moses and David. It obliged Him to bless, guide and protect His people among other benefits, under the condition that they would wholly obey Him. Repeatedly, these descendants of Abraham failed to honour their part of the deal. Kings, in particular, led the rebellion. A case was Jehoram who reigned in Judah after the death of Jehoshaphat his f

DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 9 May 2023 – When the Spirit Is Quickened

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 9 May 2023  TOPIC:  When the Spirit Is Quickened TEXT:  Psalm 119:33-40 (KJV) 33 Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end. 34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. 35 Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight. 36 Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness. 37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way. 38 Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear. 39 Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments are good. 40 Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness. KEY VERSE “Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.” (Psalm 119:40) DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 9 May 2023 MESSAGE When all man desires from God is a spiritual uplift that would make him abandon worldly pursuits and seek His kingdom and rig

DCLM Daily Manna Monday 8 May 2023 – Perilous Path

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Monday 8 May 2023  TOPIC:  Perilous Path TEXT:  Proverbs 17:1-14 (KJV) KEY VERSE “An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.”  (Proverbs 17:11) DCLM Daily Manna Monday 8 May 2023 MESSAGE Jim Jones was an American cult leader with a vision of what was described as an “integrated congregation”. He founded the Peoples Temple, a quasi-Christian commune in Jonestown, Guyana, where he often told his followers that they would all die and live happily together hereafter. In November 1978, fearing a government attack on the settlement after its members had killed an American congressman, Jones ordered a mass murder-suicide. 909 died, including 304 children. Jones shot himself dead. Jim Jones was such an evil man, “who seeketh only rebellion” and the “cruel messenger” of death was sent to him. We have the list of such men in our reading today: those who mock the poor, the wicked liar gave to pride, unforgiving friends, fool

DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 6 May 2023 – Harvesting Like The Master

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 6 May 2023  TOPIC:  Harvesting Like the Master TEXT: Luke 14:12-24 (KJV) KEY VERSE: “But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind.” (Luke 14:13) DCLM Daily Manna Saturday 6 May 2023 MESSAGE If journalists were to sit at the feet of Jesus Christ to cover His teachings, one of the uphill tasks that would confront them and their editors would be choosing the commercial headlines to appeal to demand. All our Lord said was latent ‘stop-press’ bulletins. They were the news of the day as they carried weight and deserved front-page attention. None could be relegated. However, whether in the synagogue, by the seaside, on the mountain-top or in the house of a Pharisee or tax collector, the thousands who gathered to listen to Christ were never under any burden of taking discriminatory decisions. For them it was sufficient to be at a feast where only the disadvantaged of society were hosted by Christ. That pointed them to the love o

DCLM Daily Manna Friday 5 May 2023 – Unrepentant Heart

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Friday 5 May 2023 TOPIC: Unrepentant Heart Text:  2 Chronicles 21:12-20 (KJV) KEY VERSE “And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD… thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah, But hast walked in… the whoredoms of the house of Ahab…”  (2 Chronicles 21:12,13) DCLM Daily Manna Friday 5 May 2023 MESSAGE A righteous man died, leaving three sons and a daughter behind. His first son, now heir to most of his properties, decided to undo most of the things his father had done. He took back a property donated by his father to a local church and barred every member of the assembly from coming close to it. Twos years after, he was struck with a disease and spent much of his money on the sickness. Worse still, he refused to seek repentance and divine help until he died. This story captures the life of Jehoram, the son of a righteous father, Jehoshaphat. He abandoned the ways of hi

DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 3 May 2023 – The Unreformed Reformer

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 3 May 2023 TOPIC: The Unreformed Reformer TEXT:  2 Kings 10:18-30 (KJV) KEY VERSE: “Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Bethel, and that were in Dan.”  (2 Kings 10:29) DCLM Daily Manna Wednesday 3 May 2023 MESSAGE A story was told about a king in a certain village who rose up one day and proclaimed that anyone caught fetching water from a particular stream would be put to death. He was dreaded, so every family ensured that they sought alternatives. One day, while scouting a bush near the stream for snails, a villager saw a couple of the royal guards keeping watch. Curious, he moved closer to get a better view of the scene. While taking a stroll around his kingdom, the king had become very thirsty and was drinking from the forbidden stream. He was an unreformed reformer. In today’s Bible passage, we are faced with an uncommon reformer, Jehu,

DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 2 May 2023 – Limit of Wickedness

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 2 May 2023  TOPIC:  Limit of Wickedness TEXT:  Job 21:1-21 (KJV) KEY VERSE “How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.” (Job 21:17) DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 2 May 2023 MESSAGE A promising young man from a very poor background searched diligently for a decent job after his graduation but could not get one. Then he stumbled on a lady who connected him to a plum job and they agreed to marry. He bought estates in expensive areas of the city and within a year, was travelling around the world. In fact, more doors opened for him, which made him feel he had no need for God. Unfortunately, just when he thought he had reached the peak of his life dreams, things started to nosedive until he lost all. Yet, he did not seek God’s help. Job was asking why the wicked flourished and prospered. They swam in wealth, grew old and their children had the best of life, sometimes at the ex

DCLM Daily Manna Monday 1 May 2023 – Atonement for Sins

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Monday 1 May 2023  TOPIC:  Atonement for Sins TEXT:  Leviticus 16:1-19 (KJV) KEY VERSE “Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat.”  (Leviticus 16:15) DCLM Daily Manna Monday 1 May 2023 MESSAGE A popular saying in many societies is that “blood is thicker than water”. The expression is often used to describe the degree of strength of a family relationship. However, it is also used to show aversion to spilling of blood. Whichever way, blood is significant to men and to God. In the passage of today, we see God’s instruction to Moses concerning atonement of sins. After the death of Nadab and Abihu, two sons of Aaron who died for offering strange fire before the Lord, God gave instructions regarding how to approach Him. Aaron was to come into the holy place with a young bul

DCLM Daily Manna Friday 28 April 2023 – Contending With Persecution

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Friday 28 April 2023 TOPIC: Contending With Persecution TEXT:  Jeremiah 20:7-18 (KJV) KEY VERSE: “Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.”  (Jeremiah 20:9) DCLM Daily Manna Friday 28 April 2023 MESSAGE Billy Graham, the late evangelist of repute, once said, “Persecution is one of the natural consequences of living the Christian life. It is to the Christian what ‘growing pains’ are to the growing child. No pain, no development. No suffering, no glory. No struggle, no victory. No persecution, no reward”. Jeremiah recounted his feeling of disappointment and depression following the opposition and persecution he had received for declaring the word of the Lord. Instead of obeying and responding to the prophecies he gave, he had been mocked, derided and even imprisoned. The worst was the opposition he receive

DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 27 April 2023 – The Righteous Judge

Image
DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 27 April 2023  TOPIC: The Righteous Judge TEXT:  Revelation 19:11-16 (KJV) 11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse, and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness, he doth judge and make war. 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns, and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords. KEY VERSE: “And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nati
